Why Connect to Our Inner Child

When we neglect the wounds from our past, they fester and continue to influence every action we take and decision we make throughout the rest of our life.

They are unhealed, but not unheard from; because they cause our negative feelings and behavior in communication, decisions, relationships, addiction and codependency of our current life.

We react to life with a distrustful attitude. Our choices and feelings are discolored by our sadness, loneliness, abandonment, deprivation, hurt, suspicion, etc, which came from childhood experiences and control our thoughts, words and actions even now.

The good news is that God’s Holy Spirit transforms and conforms us with the mind of Christ and fruit of His Spirit (Romans 8:29; Philippians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Galatians 5:22-23).

This alters our perspective on life and allows us to change our focus on the pain in our past, issues in our current life, as well as prevents us from fearing the unknown of the future.

Christ in us stops the self-defeating patterns, which we formerly used to protect our Inner Child, but which detrimentally ruled our life and caused problems in our relationships.

Discounting our Inner Child confesses that our needs are not important and that we are not valuable enough to gain the attention of our Inner Parent or Adult.

Connecting to our Inner Child in a nurturing relationship will open up the creative, fun-loving side of us, which we grew up to ignore. It will also help us to learn self-discipline, if the Inner Child rules our life.

As we trust Christ within us, we stop giving away the power over our life to other people. We seek God’s guidance on how to listen to our Inner Child and to meet our deep seated needs by the direction of His Holy Spirit.

We make friends with our self and we stop the psychosomatic illnesses and emotional instability, which are plaguing our life.

Prayer:
Father God, we thank You for healing our soul – our thoughts, choices and emotions. You teach us to order our day by connecting our soul and spirit to Your Spirit, so that we can walk in the Spirit and stop fulfilling the lusts of our flesh (Galatians 5:15-25). As we find our identity in You, our thoughts are based on Your Truths and we learn to breath and give You control over our life.

Thought for the Day:
As we listen to our Inner Child, we explain misunderstandings, discontinue negative self-talk, surrender our fears to God and follow the Holy Spirit’s direction for each moment of our day.
